Cosalient EHR Implementation and Integration

All too often, EHR implementation becomes an HIS department or administration driven project that has difficulty gaining traction and “buy-in” from the clinical users. In such a situation, your valuable clinical care assets become opponents of your project instead of partners who work towards making your new system a success. Cosalient® EHR offers a golden opportunity for administration and HIS to gain strong allies in your overall EHR implementation.

Create Allies for Your EHR Implementation

The notion that physicians, nurses and staff are too lazy or technology averse to learn an EHR is wrong. We see this misconception parroted in popular press. The anesthesia caregivers in your facility are likely the people who most avidly seek advanced technology. That these same people are resistant to your EHR project speaks volumes.

Caregivers are not technology averse. They merely dislike any systems that make patient care less efficient, increase workload, raise perceived liability exposure, or physically distance them from their patients. Would you want to use a tool that consistently makes your day longer, harder, riskier, and makes you appear distracted to your clients? No! Make the EHR desirable and users naturally embrace it.

From a HIS perspective, the difficulty of getting an anesthesia department to embrace just any deployable electronic record seems perplexing. You are not experienced in routinely navigating real, second by second, life and death situations. Seconds count. Minutes kill in anesthesia. Simultaneously, the anesthesia caregivers do not understand why their patient safety, time critical, high malpractice exposure practice needs are ignored by the EHR project. That pre-integrated anesthesia module may seem fabulous to implement and maintain, but falls far short of delivering an adept, trustworthy documentation companion to assist with each case.
Cosalient EHR changes everything. Instead of causing conflict, your facility can implement a critical section of your EHR system and garner end user support. Imagine an entire anesthesia department so happily using their system that nurses in the operating room, preop and PACU jealously wish they too had an EHR tool. That is exactly what Cosalient EHR achieves. It is the anesthesia intraoperative EHR solution that caregivers clamor for and ask to be implemented once they see it. Simultaneously, the system interfaces with your overall EHR and helps meet your facility needs. Win/win.

Take a moment and realize why you are reading this. A notoriously EHR resistant department has asked to use an EHR! This is a turning point opportunity for your HIS department to be perceived as a champion of positive change. Your department can be a hero to both clinicians and administration.

HL7 Interfacing Integrates Cosalient EHR

We know your concerns regarding system integration. Your HIS department has probably tried to build custom interfaces in the past and suffered the difficulties of in-house, custom coding for proprietary API’s. Custom scripts and interfaces can be difficult to maintain and modify.

Cosalient® EHR Plus edition exchanges data and documents with your facility wide EHR via the #1 KLAS® rated Corepoint interface engine. We partner with Corepoint Health to make your EHR integration easier. Once your incoming and outgoing data exchange elements are selected, the desired mappings and data transfers are flexibly handled by the HL7 exchange engine.

Both HL7 v2 and v3 data interchange are supported, so your facility can flexibly achieve its desired EHR interface without need for difficult, expensive, in house API development.

We work with your HIS department during the planning and integration phases to determine what capabilities your overall EHR system has for HL7 data interchange, which data elements you wish to receive from Cosalient EHR, and also which elements your EHR system should have available for import into Cosalient EHR.

Available exported data elements from Cosalient EHR include but are not limited to: vital signs, drug doses, drug totals, fluids given, fluids lost, PQRS event achievement, clinical notes, EKG waveform tracings, photographs, fully formatted anesthesia record imaged as PDF or JPEG. Importable items supplied by your overall EHR system should include patient ADT information, allergies, and laboratory results.

Now your facility can enjoy the clinically best of breed Cosalient EHR anesthesia module paired the #1 KLAS® rated Corepoint Integration Engine. Together, they enable achievement of both your clinical and HIS integration goals.
